- 2nd Prize at the 17th National Association of Composers USA-Young Composers Competition (Los Angeles, California; USA), 1995
- 2nd Prize at the International Composition Contest "Francesc Civil / Ciutat de Girona" (Girona, Catalunya; Spain), 1996
- Norman J. Bayles Memorial Award for Composition (The Hartt School, West Hartford, Connecticut; USA), 1993
- IX Premio Constitución (Junta de Extremadura, Extremadura; Spain), 1991
He has taught piano, theory, harmony, orchestration and composition for several years in Spain as well as in the USA and in Colombia,

- Universidad EAFIT - Dean of the Music Department from January 2004 until August 2005
At present he is Professor of Composition with exclusive dedication at the Nacional Conservatory of the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Bogotá.
His compositional output, nowadays with more than 40 titles, ranges from piano solo works, chamber music, vocal music, choir and symphonic pieces. His works have been played quite often in public concerts.

Recently he has revised and finished "Quinteto para piano y cuerdas op. 49 en sol menor" based on the surviving original manuscripts by Enric Granados.
Elected member of the American Music Honor Society Pi Kappa Lambda in 1994 and member of the Associació Catalana de Compositors (ACC) since 1993.
