As the best student of the University Mozarteum during the study year 2001/02 he was honoured with the large scholarship of the Austrian federal ministry for education and art. Furthermore, numerous scholarships and commissions were offered to him among others from Argentina, Austria, Cyprus, England, Estonia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, the Netherlands, Poland, South Africa and Switzerland.

Compositions of Marios Joannou Elia achieve regular performances in important concert halls worldwide, among others the Warsaw Philharmonic, the Berlin Philharmonic, the Hannover state opera, the Expo Athens, in Radio Culture House Vienna, Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ Amsterdam, the Villa Mazzacorati in Bologna, the Hellerau Festival hall in Dresden, the Millenáris-Teatrum Budapest, the Muffathalle Munich, in Koendori Classics Tokyo and Auditorio Público de Abogados in Buenos Aires.

The oeuvre Elias comprises over 50 compositions of all music genres and he is founder member of the Agora Group, a circle of young independent artists of different nations around the composer.
