Lara Morciano began studying piano as a child, graduating at the age of sixteen from T. Schipa Conservatory in Lecce with highest honours.

Continuing to study piano and to perform, she turned to composition at the Santa Cecilia Conservatory in Rome, studying with Ada Gentile. After earning a degree in choral music and choral conducting, she graduated in compositions in 1993.

She continued her studies at the National Academy of Santa Cecilia with Franco Donatoni, receiving a degree in composition in 1995.

In 1999 she also graduated with a diploma in score analysis and piano reduction from this same conservatory.

In 2001 she was selected for a month-long computer music course at IRCAM in Paris.

In 2002 she graduated in composition with the highest distinction at the Conservatoire National de Region de Strasbourg, after studying with Ivan Fedele.

Her compositions have been performed at numerous contemporary music festivals, such as

  • Festival Music Italy 1998
  • Festival Music Strasbourg (1999, 2001, 2003)
  • The Venice Biennale 2002
  • De singel in Antwerp 2002
  • Festival d`Avignon, Acanthes 2002
  • Warsaw Autumn Festival 2003

She has collaborated with ensembles such as Court Circuit, Accroche Note and Festival Music of Strasburg commissioned her to write a piece for baroque instruments and dance.

Since 2003 she has been composer in residence at the Ecole National de Musichange de Montbeliard as part of an exchange agreements with Tempo Reale of Florence.

She is currently composing for the ensemble Accroche Note, commissioned by the French Ministry of Culture (Commande d`Etat), to be premiered next year.

Morciano teaches at the Conservatory Umberto Giardano in Foggia and her compositions are published by Edizioni Suvini Zerboni of Milan.
