The Ensemble of contemporary and classical music was founded in 1981 and is since 1990 called the Odessa String Quartet Harmonies of the World (OSQ)

The repertoire of the ensemble is a collection of seldom heard music of the 18th to 20th century and they often premiers the works of contemporary composers. Alone during the first soviet decade (1981-91) of it's existence the ensemble performed 77 new works by composers of the former USSR, 51 of which were world Premieres.
In the eighties, the Moscow record label Melodia produced two records of the ensemble:
1985 - Works of the composer Yan Freidlin (Odessa) and
1987 - New music of ancient Armenia,
the latter being works of Armenian composers, dedicated to the ensemble.

During the soviet period, the ensemble traveled extensively throughout Ukraine, Latvia, Georgia, Armenia, Russia, recording tv and radio programs and also participating in various forums of contemporary music.

Since 1991,being the oldest and one of the leading collectives of Ukraine, OSQ conducts active concert activity, creating from eight to fifteen programs during a concert season. where each program includes up to 3 new compositions, written specially for OSQ.

The Ensemble constantly cooperates with leading musicians of Europe and America:

  • Horst Ebenhoeh, Erik Freitag, Eugene Hartzell and Wolfram Wagner from Austria

OSQ Harmonies of the World be participant of the numerous Internationals Festivals of the tradicionaly and contemporary music:

  • Annual International Festival 2 Days and 2 Nights of new music (1995-2003, Odessa)
  • Annual International Festival Kyiv Music Fest ( 1994-2003, Kiev)
  • II International Festival of Jewish Music (1993, Odessa)
  • Days of new music ( 2000, 2001, Moldova)
  • Festival of Perth (1995, Australia)
  • Duerstainer Concerts (1993, 1997, Austria)
  • International Festival Europe-Asia (2002, Kasan, Russia)
  • International Festival Tradition and Contemporary (2001, Yerevan, Armenia)
  • International Festival of Contemporary music (2003, Vilnus, Lithuania)

OSQ also goes on tour in such countries as Austria, Israel, Switzerland, USA and in countries of the former USSR.

The OSQ recorded several CDs from the works of Alfred Schnitke, in particular one which was produced in 1994 by Dutch firm Globe (GLO 5069,sound producer Peter Kondrashin).
Two more CDs of the chamber music by A.Schnitke were produced by the Moscow record label Melodia in 1991-1992.

In 1996 Kondrashin Classical Recording (Moskow) recorded CD Jazz Arrangements for a string Quartet, and in 2002 two CDs from the works of Mikhail Bronner (Moskow)

Today in the repertoir portfolio of the ensemble Harmonies of the World there are more than 150 serious works of Ukranian, Russian, world classics of the 18th to 20th centuries, new music from the end 20th - beginning 21st century and numerous programmes of popular and entertainment music. All members of the OSQ Harmonies of the World are leaders of their respective groups of the National Odessa Philharmonic Orchestra.



Nataliya Litvinova (1st violin)

Graduated Odessa Music Academia in 1970 under prof. A. Zissermann
In 1977, together with cellist Sergey Scholz, founded String Duo in Odessa Philharmonic Society
Since 1981 played in Ensemble of Contemporary music
Since 1984 also plays First Violin of the Odessa String Quartet
Leader of the National Odessa Philharmonic Orchestra (NOPO).
As a member NOPO and OSQ she has been on tours in several countries of the World: Australia, Austria, Canada, England, France, Germany, Greece, North Ireland, Israel, USA, Spain and Switzerland.

Leonid Piskun (2nd violin)

Graduated Odessa Music Academia in 1980 under prof. A.Stanko
Leader of Second Violine group in the NOPO
Since 1984 - also second violinist of the OSQ Harmonies of the World
Professor of the Odessa University (chamber music)
As a member NOPO and OSQ has been on tours in several countries of the World: Australia, Austria, Canada, England, France, Germany, Greece, North Ireland, Israel, USA, Spain and Switzerland.

Iya Komarova (viola)

Graduated Kiev Music Academia in 1986 under prof. Venzhega,prof.B.Palshkov
Leader of Viole group in the National Odessa Philharmonic Orchestra (NOPO)
Since 1989 - also viola player of the OSQ Harmonies of the World
Professor of the Odessa Music Academy, solo player
As a member NOPO and OSQ has been on tours in several countries of the World: Australia, Austria, Canada, England, Germany, North Ireland, Israel, USA, Spain and Switzerland.
Sergey Scholz (cello)

Graduated Odessa Music Academia in 1972
In 1977, together with violinist Natalia Litvinova founded String Duo in Odessa Philharmonic Society
Since 1981 played in Ensemble of Contemporary music
Since 1984 also plays cello in Odessa String Quartet Harmonies of the World
Leader of Cello group in the NOPO

Harmonies of the World Ensemble requires your support for realization our projects
Difficult economic situation in Ukraine, especially in the field of culture, has given our collective a choice: to be or not to be!.
For 25 years we have been engaged in noncommercial music performances of new and newest music created by composers from different countries of the world - we have performed more than 150 World Premiers, more than 80 pieces in various forms and genres have been written specially for us: solo, duo, a trio, quartets, quintets, ballet, chamber operas! It is our life, and we ask your help in order to keep our ensemble alive!
